Vierapril Day 19 - Tempest



Kris isn't the main character of Dawntrail, so he hams it up in the Arcadion.

So, I have Laurent as the main character for Dawntrail and the patches, because Kris has dealt with enough and needs a vacation. With DT it doesn't feel so important that you're the WoL, so I figured he can use the time to step into the spotlight while Kris relaxes. While he does tag along at times, Kris is very much not the main character and until Everything Goes Down is just doing what he wants.

But post-DT, Kris is getting a little antsy. Laurent's off doing important things and yeah, he comes along for most of that (he has to get hit by lightning after all his husband can't survive that). But surely there's more to do, right?

Of course there is—the Arcadion! Most of the raids are not canon for Kris (Eden is about the only one that is), but despite not being important to the overarching plot, this series is definitely Kris's cup of tea.

The Village

The village is where Kris and Laurent grew up—it doesn't have a name. It's located in a remote part of the Golmore Jungle; as such, they did not have contact with other villages and hadn't for a long time. This area of the jungle is particularly harsh and dangerous, so the small village often struggles to ensure there is enough food and resources to go around.

As such, the village isn't really focused on the individual—there is no time to think of one person's happiness or fulfillment when the village is often barely hanging on. It's taught from a young age that everything you do is for the village, and your role is your role; there is no alternative. While some things can be left up to an individual's choice, it must not interfere with whatever the village 'requires' of you.

Roles are also very much set in terms of 'gender' roles, always decided upon when a Viera reaches puberty. Women must hunt and gather and stay in the village to protect it and the kits, and men must become Wood Warders and protect the wider jungle from dangers or intruders. Even if someone chooses another gender later in life, their role is their role, and said gender could not get in the way of completing any of their duties.

Also, despite being remote, the village is still close enough to the jungle's edge that outsiders will sometimes wander into the village's general vicinity. This is uncommon, but not so uncommon that it's a surprise when someone is found in the forest. All outsiders are immediately dispatched, with no exceptions.
