Get Your Words Out (GYWO) has a prompt challenge every month--the prompt for August was writing something like you were posting on r/amitheasshole. I thought it was hilarious and immediately had an idea... but then it took like a month to actually get to writing it. That's life lol.

I doubt this is terribly in character but it's all for fun so enjoy.

AITA for saving my sister?

Alright, I need some neutral opinions on this. Everyone's chewing me out, but I think I did the right thing. I was only saving my sister, after all.

So here's the situation:

My twin sister and I (both ~1,000, F) are the inheritors of the Titan Thanatos' powers—the power over life and death. It's a big responsibility, and honestly, one I wasn't sure if I was ready for. It was hard to imagine me, of all people, shepherding souls to the realm of the dead for the entirety of the next cycle.

But that's not even the whole thing! The trial we were to undertake forced it so that one of us had to die! What sort of trial would make us turn against one another, anyway? Why can we not inherit the powers together? It's life and death, after all. Wouldn't two people be better?

Anyway… my sister sacrificed herself to complete the trial, and I received the Coreflame of Thanatos. I took my spot in the nether realm and waited for the end of the world and for the cycle to begin anew, as I was meant to.

But I was really unhappy. This wasn't the way things should have ended. And, well, I had the power to change that! So I did.

I used my powers of life to resurrect my sister, allowing her to live again in this new cycle. It's what she deserved, you know?

But now all my friends seem to be upset, saying that I 'upset the natural order of things' and 'caused untold suffering to my sister and countless souls'. I don't get it. So, AITA?

EDIT: Yes, the way my sister was reborn gave her a touch of death that didn't allow her to become close to anyone lest she kill them. But she was alive, isn't that the important part?

EDIT 2: Does it really matter that all the souls of the dead were stuck in limbo for 1,000 years? They were dead; it's not like they had anything else to do. Isn't letting them hang out in the world of the living for a bit longer nice for them anyway?

EDIT 3: Wow ok all these people calling me the asshole are delusional. Wouldn't you do the same in my position? Yeah, sure. Go be judgmental somewhere else.

This is a part of #ficwip's 5k challenge, which was to write a complete AU in 5k words or less! It was a fun challenge.

So this time, we have an office AU. Kris is (still) terrible with technology, and Laurent's the poor new IT guy who gets stuck dealing with the man. No matter the universe, Laurent's always suffering. But that's okay! That's... how love blooms, right...?

I usually don't post a fic like this in one chapter, since there's time passing between some scenes. But given the short length, I figured it was just easier to put it out all the once. It should still be easy to read!

Kris carefully stretches his arm up, but brings it back down quickly with a hiss. "Gods, this is so annoying..."

Laurent frowns and looks up from his book. "My love, it's only been a few weeks—if anything, it's a miracle you can move around as much as you are in the first place."

"I know, Reyna, it's just..." Kris trails off for a bit before continuing. "I feel like such a burden, with everyone doting on me..."

"Eir..." Laurent gently—very gently—wraps his arms around Kris. "You damn near died to save the world... so please, just rest."

Fluffy July Day 30 - "Listen to my heartbeat"

Gale hears Laurent wake with a gasp, his heavy and ragged breathing a sure sign that he was having a nightmare.

"My love, I'm here..." Gale squeezes Laurent's hand, and he looks over to his husband.

"Oh, Eir... I-I'm sorry for waking you..."

"You didn't wake me. Come here..." Gale gently moves Laurent so his head is on his chest. "Listen... I'm here, and I'm fine. My heartbeat proves that, does it not?"

Laurent wraps his arms around Gale's waist. "It does..."

"I'll be here, my love. Get some rest..." Gale strokes Laurent's hair, and eventually they both fall asleep.

[Every time I see this prompt I think of the Dark Knight quests, but that's like… the antithesis of fluffy. So let's talk about Laurent's recurring nightmares instead. Which… I suppose also isn't fluffy but Gale's response is!]

Fluffy July Day 29 - Falling into water

Kris glares at Laurent when his head pops out of the water. "Why in the hells did you push me!?"

His husband crosses his arms with a frown. "You were being frustrating."

Kris's eyes narrow as he treads the water. "What if I had drowned!?"

"You can breathe underwater. You're fine."

"Ugh! You are the worst." Kris holds his arm out. "Help me out, at least."

Laurent sighs and squats down, grabbing Kris's hand. However, when Kris tries to pull him in, Laurent doesn't move, and he huffs. "Did you think I'd fall for that?"

Kris pouts. "You usually do."

Fluffy July Day 28 - Borrowed clothing

"Hey! That isn't yours!"

Laurent looks at the shirt he's wearing. "No, it's yours."

"I know that—" Gale growls in frustration. "That's why I'm yelling at you! You're stretching it out!"

"What? We're practically the same size."

"We are not! Your arms are bigger. And your chest! Look at how tight—" Gale suddenly cuts himself off after he looks down. "Never mind. You can keep it on."

Laurent furrows his brow. "…Huh? You were just yelling—"

"It looks good on you." Gale's gaze flicks to Laurent's chest again before he looks away. "I can sacrifice one shirt for the view…"

Fluffy July Day 27 - "I would die for you." "Live for me instead."

"Reyna..." Kris caresses Laurent's cheek, his tone serious. "I love you... If it came to it, I'd-"

"Don't say it."

"Huh?"

"I know what you're going to say, Eir. Don't." Laurent's expression is severe. "I don't want that from you."

Kris looks away, spinning a ring on his finger. "I just... I don't want to, but..."

Laurent sighs, then pulls Kris into a hug. "I understand why you want to say it, but... that wouldn't be very fair to me, would it? I'd much rather you try to live. What's the point of a world without you in it, anyway?"

Fluffy July Day 26 - "Don't say anything, just come here"

"Don't say anything, just come here…"

Laurent's low voice sends a shock up Gale's spine, and his breath hitches when soft kisses land on his shoulder. His partner's hands grab his waist—more gently than he anticipated—and spins Gale around so they face one another. Gale looks into the eyes of the man he loves, the mix of adoration and desire evident in his gaze.

Gale lightly strokes Laurent's cheek, but he grabs his hand and kisses the inside of Gale's wrist, making him gasp at the sensation. What they both wanted now was evident—no words were needed.

Gale watches the morning sunlight stream in with a hint of sadness. Katerina had started attending classes to learn arcane magicks, but Gale couldn't help but be keenly aware of their daughter's missing presence.

Laurent chuckles, sitting beside Gale and wrapping an arm around him. "It feels strange not having to chase her around all day. But it's not so bad to have some peaceful mornings, either."

"You're right, my love." Gale smiles as he lays his head on Laurent's shoulder and puts a hand on his chest. "A little quiet won't hurt us... and she'll be back soon enough."

Kris's expression screams 'this is the last thing you see before you die'. "Do you know what those muffins were for?"

He's going to strangle me, isn't he? "...Breakfast?"

Kris glowers. "They were to celebrate Tataru opening her boutique!" He pinches the bridge of his nose. "Now I'll need another batch. Go get some more ingredients from The Last Stand."

"But it's midnight—"

"That wasn't a request." Kris sighs and pulls some bowls out, a hint of a smile playing on his face. "I suppose it's nice you liked them enough to eat damn near the whole plate, though."

[Laurent's sweet tooth is the stuff of legends, but maybe he shouldn't just randomly eat Kris's sweets in the middle of the night. If he wants to grow old, at least.]

Fluffy July Day 23 - Carrying to bed

"Eir, where's Pepper?"

Laurent found his—their—cat sitting on Gale's stomach, the two lounging on the couch. Gale cranes his neck and smiles at him. "He's here, love."

"It's time for bed, let me grab him..."

"You can't disturb him!" Gale hovers a hand over Pepper protectively. "If you want to take him to bed, you'll just have to take me with you."

Laurent looks unamused. "This was your plan, wasn't it..." Regardless, Laurent bends down and picks up both husband and cat, Gale giggling lightly as he does so.

Pepper, unaffected by his owners' shenanigans, continues to sleep.

[Laurent's been terrified of animals for literally centuries, but by some miracle, Gale managed to convince him that they had to take in Pepper. He was initially apprehensive, but now he loves that little cat to pieces.]

Fluffy July Day 22 - "Open your mouth"

Gale settles in, leaning against Laurent's chest as he offers fruit from his plate. "What are you reading about, my love?"

Laurent readjusts so Gale can see the book. "How to crossbreed peppers."

"Peppers? You don't usually grow crops..." Gale holds an apple slice up to Laurent. "Open your mouth."

Laurent accepts the fruit without a second thought. "Maybe I can use some of the techniques for crossbreeding flowers."

"I see..." Gale grins at his husband. "Why don't you explain it to me, and I'll keep feeding you while you do?"

"...Fine..." Laurent huffs, but he can't hide his smile.

Fluffy July Day 21 - "Can't you just hold me?"

"Eir... I-I..."

Kris had come by and sat on Laurent's lap—not an unusual occurrence by itself. However, on a bench in a busy area of Old Sharlayan, Laurent felt a bit uncomfortable. He squirms a bit, but Kris doesn't move.

"Can you just hold me for a bit...?"

Laurent looks down at Kris and notices his melancholic expression. "Oh..." Without any further objections, he wraps his arms around Kris, pulling his head close to his chest. "Of course, my love..." Laurent wasn't sure what caused Kris's mood, but if he could make him feel better, that's all that mattered.

"Come back to bed…"

Laurent wraps an arm around Gale's waist, pulling him back, and Gale chuckles as he allows himself to fall into his embrace. Laurent gives him a sleepy expression that almost looks pouty. "We don't need to be anywhere. Let's lie here a little longer…"

Gale smiles at his partner and idly plays with his hair until they both doze off.

Kris's eyes flutter open when a sunbeam filters through the window. Morning already? He suppresses a sigh, wishing that the sun would retreat for another bell or two, then turns his gaze to his partner.

Laurent begins to stir, and shortly after, he opens his eyes and looks at Kris. "Mm...Good morning..." He gives Kris a small smile, his lids still heavy from sleep.

How did I become so lucky that you came to love me...? Kris returns the smile, pushes some of Laurent's hair out of his face, and gives him a peck on his cheek. "Good morning, Reyna..."

Fluffy July Day 18 - "Are you sure you're not a dream?"

Gale chuckles and pushes his back against Laurent. "Someone's flirty today."

"I'm serious..." Laurent pushes some of Gale's hair out of the way and kisses the back of the neck, which makes him squirm with a laugh. "After leaving the forest, I... thought I'd never see you again. But here you are..."

"Here I am." Gale turns around with a smile and traces a finger down Laurent's hip. "You're stuck with me, now."

Laurent wraps his arms around Gale and pulls him close, stopping just short of kissing him. "My dream come true."

[Laurent got exiled from the village they grew up in, and it took Gale five years to find him again in Dalmasca. But it was all worth it.]

Fluffy July Day 17 - Baking

Gale adds flour to the bowl before wiping his brow, leaving pale stripes across his forehead. "I need the cakes to go in soon... then I can work on the candied strawberries, and... oh!" Gale moves to another bowl and stirs it. "Perfect, the frosting is coming together nicely..."

He grins before grabbing a rag to wipe off the flour on his face (only partially successfully). It's Reyna's nameday, I have to make sure these are perfect! That said, Gale isn't stressed about the cakes he's making—he was simply looking forward to how much Laurent will enjoy them later.

[Gale is a great chef and loves cooking, but he also loves baking! He makes very special sweets for Laurent's birthday and loves pampering him on that day—even if Laurent doesn't ask for those sorts of things (he's delighted regardless).]

Fluffy July Day 16 - "I dare you"

Gale sips his tea as he hears an annoyed tapping nearby. How much longer until he gives up… Shortly after, Laurent heaves a frustrated sigh before walking over. "Gale."

"Yes, my love?" Laurent frowns, but Gale notices the uneasiness in his eyes. After all these years, he's still like this. Adorable. "If there's something you want, you merely need to take it, Reyna."

"Take it? I'm not sure what you mean."

"Yes, you do." Gale sets the teacup down before standing up. "In fact, I dare you to. See how far you get."

That was all the invitation he needed.

[Poor Laurent, always an anxious one—he doesn't want to make Gale uncomfortable. (I'll probably explain more sometime but this isn't the right place lol). Thankfully, his husband is understanding and always reassures him of his worries, even after decades of marriage. They're too sweet.]
